“Is This Heaven?”

"Is this heaven?"

"No, it's Iowa."

We watched Field of Dreams during a recent family movie night. I've been waiting 10 years to show this one to the boys, and man, it didn't disappoint! I was a little nervous that they would find it boring or too slow-moving, but they both gave it a 10/10.

After the movie, I asked them what they liked most about the movie. Pax already had the answer on the tip of his tongue: "How he wanted to play catch with his dad at the end."

I about melted! That is also my favorite scene. I remember watching that scene when my kids were just babies. I melted then, too, knowing I had two little boys swaddled next to me, and someday, I might get to play catch with them.

A simple act of catch. Two gloves, a ball, the sound of birds chirping, and a silent understanding that this moment matters. It's the perfect illustration of the beauty of life.

We're about to go on two family vacations in the weeks to come, and all I can think about is how badly I want to live in the moment and maximize the experiences I get with our little family.

Every little moment counts. Life doesn't have to offer these big, massive events for us to savor the beauty of the moment. Even the small things, the mundane things, the uneventful things can trigger experiences and create memories that will go to the grave with us.

Don't look past the opportunity to create moments and memories with your kids. Time goes too fast, and we don't want to let too much time pass before we realize some of the most amazing opportunities of our lives stand before us in the present.
