Today
A blog reader recently reached out with a very sincere question: "When is a good time to start giving?" For context, she explained that a lot is going on in her life, she isn't where she wants to be financially yet, and she feels there will be an appropriate time to start giving. She shared that she's excited to give and wants to get there as quickly as possible.
I have good news: That day is today! Today is a good time to start giving. Yes, life is crazy. Yes, there's still progress to be made. Yes, there are most certainly compounding forces creating challenges in your finances and beyond. All that is true, and today is a great day to start giving.
As my friend Gary often says, everyone has something to give. You, today, right where you're at, have something to give. You might have more to give later; you might have much more to give later. But today, you have something to give. Thus, you should give it. It sounds so simple.....because it is!
There are no prerequisites, hurdles, or qualifications for giving. Giving is something that we can (and should!) do right now, regardless of our current lot in life. I'm gonna give you the little secret to giving. Giving makes just as much impact (or more) on the giver as it does on the recipient. When we give, something inside us changes. We're slowly transformed from materialistic creatures living in our own little silos into compassionate, sacrificial people who share life with others. It's one of life's most beautiful aspects.
There's also freedom in knowing that, wherever you are financially, you have the power to make a difference right where you are. I wish someone had told me that when I was younger and had far fewer resources. I spent so much time chasing, trying to improve my financial position in life, that I missed many beautiful opportunities to serve others with generosity.
In case you're wondering, like this thoughtful reader, today is a great day to start giving. I don't need to know any details about your life or your finances to know that. Everyone has something to give.....including you!
