Wealthier Than We Think
I recently read something that was tremendously thought-provoking for me, and perhaps you'll agree, too:
"When I was 20, I wanted to be a millionaire. Now that I'm a millionaire, I want to be 20."
I remember when I had no money, lots of debt, limited resources, little influence, a tiny apartment, a second-hand couch, a $100 mattress, and big dreams. That young guy really wanted to make something of himself, and he was far more materialistic than I'd like to admit.
Fast forward more than two decades, and I would give away every single dollar and possession to be that young again. To put it another way, I would consider time far more valuable than any amount of money, wealth, or resources.
This isn't me wishing away my life and lamenting the natural aging process. Rather, it's a recognition that each one of us is far wealthier than we realize. However old we are, 20-years-from-now us would likely give up anything and everything to be exactly where we are today.
Just as I'd give up everything to be 25 again, 65-year-old me would give up everything to be 45-year-old me again. That means I'm far wealthier than I give myself credit for.
Don't waste today. Don't forget how wealthy you are. Maybe not wealthy with money or resources, but wealthy with time.
