(Not) Running It Into the Ground
Heck, I have people regularly tell me that it's impossible for a family of four to dine out in the Midwest for less than $100, never mind what it would cost to eat in one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Anti-Protection
"I have an idea," I exclaimed. I told him I needed to stop to get gas, and when I did, he could go in by himself and buy whatever drink he wanted.
Chicken or Egg?
I recently stumbled upon a heated online conversation on a social media platform. The original poster posed a question: "If so many people are struggling right now, why are there so many people with brand-new vehicles parked in their driveways?"
“Is This Heaven?”
After the movie, I asked them what they liked most about the movie. Pax already had the answer on the tip of his tongue: "How he wanted to play catch with his dad at the end."
Discouraged, But Not Destroyed
In a few hours, I will load my car onto a tow trailer and sit next to a tow-truck driver for a 4.5-hour trek back home.
Whatever Means
"Choose" is the key word. We have a choice. We all have a choice. Every day we wake up with a choice. Will I use my skills, passions, and influence to make a difference today?
“They Are Spending My Inheritance!!!”
Excuse me, what?!?! A grown independent woman is venting about how her parents are on a cruise, lamenting that they are spending her future money.
Outgrowing Your Structure
I recently met with a couple who are becoming progressively more frustrated with their finances. This seems counterintuitive, though, as they are making far more money than they ever have before. Why, then, are they getting frustrated? It's pretty simple: The current complexity of their life has outgrown their financial structure.
The 20-Year Reverse Age Gap
One of my friends retired two years ago at 53. He's one of those men who always seemed younger than his age. He had a little extra pep in his step; another gear.
Enjoy the Suck
If all goes well, by year-end, one of my clients will have paid off $48,000 of consumer debt in just 19 months. Two vehicles and a collection of student loans; normal stuff! They don't realize it yet, but their lives are about ready to shift into an exciting and unprecedented new realm. Nothing will ever be the same.
The Want-to-Need Migration
Much discourse centers around the idea that life is so much more expensive today than it used to be. We blame inflation, capitalism, Boomers, politicians, and the systemic structure of our modern-day society.
Exhibit #975
I recently stumbled upon a social media video in which a woman asked, "If you were offered a free vacation, but you weren't allowed to post any photos of the vacation on social media, would you still go?"
An Accidental Insult
During our second encounter, this person said to me, "Thanks for supporting this small business." Ugh!
Pax: Make Good Choices
I think much of this stems from our human desire for instant gratification. We willfully do things to get what we want now, at the expense of what we want most.
26 and Dreaming
This young guy is just three years into his career, and he's already dreaming about quitting work 34 years from now?!?!
If Everything Is Important…..
Here's a general truth. If everything is important, nothing is important.
There’s Always Something
Here's another problem: this is only the most recent in a string of unexpected needs. Truth be told, they've been putting off this big, important dream for more than six years! Why? There's always something!
Pursue Failure?!?!
Even if I’m as excellent as I can possibly be, there’s almost no way to fully avoid failure. Sometimes, soul-crushing, publicly embarrassing failure.
